All worth the hiking effort

Having booked this 4D/3N tour through Inca Trail Reservations , we were pleased to receive regular e-mails seeking to assist in our arrangements for accommodation and other activities for our time in Cusco including a pick-up from the airport who was very easy to find.

The introductory talk at the offices located fairly centrally in Cusco proved to be very useful, ensuring that we were well informed of the itinerary as well as checking we were equipped with items we may need on the trek.

The trek itself was such an amazing experience. The second day was undoubtedly the toughest, climbing to Dead Woman´s Pass in the rain was especially challenging. This was probably due to us not electing to get an extra porter therefore carrying all of our own equipment. If you choose not to hire an extra porter (most of the people in our group did, 1 between 2), i would definitely recommend packing light, and getting walking sticks. I only used mine on the second day but i really did need them!

A major contributing factor to my enjoyment of this trek was socialising with the range of people from numerous countries in our 18 person group whilst hiking, at meal times and during ´happy hour´. The guides were excellent in both ensuring that everyone was progressing and proved very knowledgeable at all of the brilliant sites encountered.

Of course the final day at Machu Picchu was spectacular, it is what we all came for. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone though you should know that it is quite physically demanding, but the guides always ensure that there are regular breaks, sections are nicely split up into 1-2hr efforts and there is always support to those who may be finding it tough.

Thank you Raul, Guido, Elisban, the porters and cook for such an brilliant time!
