The Inca Trail in my eyes is the only way to see Machu Picchu. Sure you have to book months in advance, but something this majestic needs proper pre trip planing. Our three guides were amazing, they worked very hard to keep all 16 of us trekers happy and on schedule. They were very knowledgable and could answer any questions we had.

The porters were super human, where can you find people who wake you up in the morning with a smile and a hot cup of coca tea before carrying 27 kilos on their back for 6 hours. They run past you on the trail wearing sandals and set up your tent for you before cooking an amazing dinner with happy hour tea and snacks. Even if you are not carrying your own gear don´t let anyone tell you the hike is easy. It took four porters to carry a person to camp who just couldn•t finish the hike. As the trail winds its way over mountains and through valleys you pass several ruins which you are given time to explore.

On the third day the cloud rainforest is beautiful. Moss covered trees and bamboo line the trail while in the distance you can see terraces. When you finally reach Machu Picchu early in the morning on the fourth day it is magical, the sun rises and the mist clears to reveal the lost city. As you descend closer and closer to the ruins it looks as if they are moving themselves as the first buses and trains have long arrived bringing rafts of tourists. The frustration of bumping shoulders with these seemingly un-deserving tourists melts away as you get lost in the ruins and wonder how the Incas were able to accomplish nearly impossible tasks in such a short span of time.

Hiking up Huayna Picchu was tough but worth it all at the same time. The 1 hour climb straight up gives you the most breath taking birds eye view of Machu Picchu where you really get a sense of the size.

The experience was unforgetable with Inca Trail Reservations , beautiful and went by in a blink.
