Hiking the Inca Trail was an experience of a lifetime. It was very difficult and very exciting. The first day was beautiful and fairly easy. The sun was out for the morning but it rained in the afternoon. However, the rain was light and warm so it was not bothersome. Our trail guide, David, was very helpful and friendly. He was very clear about what to expect along the trail each day. We knew where and when all of our stops were which made the more difficult parts of the trail easier.

The second day also started with some sun but with several hours to go the rain came hard and cold. The trail itself was not difficult, but the rain made the trek less enjoyable. It rained all of day three and four as well. I wish I had been better prepared for the rain. I was under the impression that there would not be near as much rain as there was, so I did not bring or purchase all of the necessary clothing and protection for hiking in the rain. If I were to do the trail again, that would be what I would change.

I would make sure that almost everything I would wear is water proof or at least easy to protect from the rain. I was honestly upset about the rain when we got to Machu Picchu because I was not able to see the city the same way you always see it in photographs. However, I am very glad that I made the trek, and the pictures I took were still very awe-inspiring.

This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
