The Salkantay Trek was an amazing experience; one that I will take with me for the rest of my life. The first thing you need to know about this trek is that it is an extremely demanding trek. You will need lots of warm clothes and will definitely need to acclimatize to the high altitude.

The most grueling part of this trek was the second day when we made our pass next to the Salkantay glacier, which was approximately 4,600 meters in elevation. At this point, the air gets thin and cold, making it hard to breathe. So make sure you are well acclimatized.

The best part about this trek was probably the hot springs in the city of Santa Teresa (this is only possible if you are doing the 5 day/4 night version of the trek). After 3 days of trekking, being able to take a warm shower was truly amazing. Overall, this trek was amazing as well as the staff helping us out. Our guide knew exactly what she was talking about and the best routes to reach our destination quicker.

The great thing was that she had the answers to all our questions. So make sure to ask if you are curious about anything on the trek. All in all, this trek was a great experience.
