Just finished the Inca Trail and we loved it.
The first day was all about getting into the right modus of walking and right mindset especially. ´Positive´ like our guide Victor liked to stress. Especially since the second day was going to be quite intense. And intense it was. I was soooo happy to arrive at the highest point at 4200mtrs because I just couldnt catch my breath. But after that, everything was very doable. The views give you so much energy and the group spirit was good, which made it a really nice experience. The sun was out most of the time and we had the clearest views. The landscapes on the way maybe were sometimes even more impressive than arriving at the actual Machu Picchu..
Not to forget about the porters who always would give you a smile, despite carrying so much weight up the difficult stone staircases. The food was amazing, even as vegetarians we have had nothing to complain about, we even ate more during the trek then on any other of our holidays!
Only the sleeping was a bit difficult, being tall in a small tent on a tiny mattress in the cold, but hey that´s part of the experience.. And like Victor liked to say, we were staying in a millions stars hotel, the skies are truly amazing at night!
Our guide Victor was very well informed about all the ruins and despite our tiredness especially when arriving at Machu Picchu, he kept us all engaged in his stories.
An awesome experience we will never forget. Thanks to the whole team!!!
