The 5 day Salkantay trek was one of the most challenging and rewarding adventures that I have ever embarked on.
Not going to lie, it was extremely tough and both mentally and physically challenging, but arriving to the magical citadel of Machu Picchu was worth every exhausting step! Along the way, there were amazing, awe-inspiring moments that kept me motivated and remembering why I wanted to come on this trip on the first place.
The first day, that memorable experience was viewing the glacier lagoon after the grueling optional hike up from the campsite. The beautiful icy blue color of the water framed by the towering mountains took what was left of my breath away. The second day, the memorable moment that helped keep me going was reaching the top of the pass and getting to view the majestic Salkantay mountain up close and personal.
These and many more similar moments made the trip a wonderful experience and completely unbelievable.
On top of the amazing scenery that we were hiking through, the crew that we were with really were the ones who made the trip a complete success. Our guides, Paul and Marco were completely professional and very attentive to all of our various maladies along the way.
They spent special effort to make sure that we all felt encouraged and supported along the entire trip and were extremely knowledgeable about the culture and history of the area.
Overall, this trip was completely amazing, even if it was completely exhausting as well! I will definitely be recommending this trip to my friends and family in the future!
