OMG. This is not a trek for the weak hearted ! It is quite beautiful and I enjoyed myself thoroughly, but I was not prepared for how much physical and mental strength I needed to commit to completing this trek. Of course, this was my first trek of any kind, and at high altitude I think that added another variable, but it was such a feat, and I'm so glad that I did it.
Our group was awesome and small only 7 people, not including our awesome guide Ramiro, chef Raul and horseman Daniel. All three were amazing and so helpful in getting us and our things over, through and down the mountains. It really was 5 star camping ! The meals were maravillosas, and the tents were clean. I loved being in the wilderness, but it was a bit unexpected to converge with other groups on the trail, and the bathrooms were not always clean. However, Ramiro got me through !
It was a really hard but rewarding experience, and with the right people, I would definitely do this again. When I was feeling tired or walking slow, Ramiro was right there with me, walking and encouraging me. I would only suggest that if you get trekking poles, get two so you can balance yourself, and be prepared to have a few challenging moments. No matter what, you'll be proud of yourself and so happy that you decided to make it happen.
