This trek was the first like it that I have been on in my life so I had no idea what to expect but it exceeded any expectations I had. We got very lucky with weather which helped, it was sunny the whole time and got warmer every day and night.
My guide, Lito, was very informative about some of the history of the country and the different fauna along the way. He also kept us all laughing at the hardest times like the second day when we walked 3 hours up a step incline to the highest point of the trip. The views were amazing, some of the best I've seen. I kept forgetting that we were heading to Machu Picchu because everything was better than the last thing we saw or did.
I would definitely recommend the Salkantay trek for the adventurous types of people who don't mind sleeping in very cold conditions (the second night).
