A trek to Machu Picchu was a bucket list point of our month in South America and the Salkantay Trek did not disapoint in levels of adventure!.
Our guide Juan Carlos guided us through the beautiful surroundings, unexepected levels of snow and rain as well as a bout of altitude sickness with friendliness, proffessionalism and good humour! He was fantastic and offered us so many opportunities to learn along the way, and his friends, our chefs and horseman were brilliant company.
The food was phenomenal and thankfully the chefs did not take offence when altitude sickness meant I could not eat as much as I would have liked!. Unfortunately when we split from Juan Carlos as we arrived at Augas Calintes things did not run as smoothly due to human error but we did not let it tarnish a brilliant trek or a fantastic day in the phenomenal Machu Picchu.
