The Inca Trail has been on my traveling agenda for some years. The Inca Trail Reservations company and in particular the diligent staff that accompanied us throughout the four day hike made the adventure one hell of an experience.
Personally the trek itself was not as strenuous as the guide books described it. The only two parts that were mildly difficult were coping with the high altitude and the porter challenge which earned me a free Peruvian cocktail.
The experience was certainly unforgettable: breathtaking views from various mountain peaks, the sounds of the aggressive and fast flowing Urubamba river, impressive waterfalls that could be seen or heard from nearly every walking point on the trail and finally the arrival at the famous Sun Gate where the view of the lost city of Machu Picchu greets you with immense joy and excitement.
