I have just completed the four day, three night Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It was a great challenge and an amazing experience that I will always remember. Although it was hard work at times, particularly when suffering with altitude sickness, the sight of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate on the morning of the last day made it all worthwhile.

The second day was the most difficult, with around five hours of walking uphill. However we saw some beautiful views of the mountains along the way and also walked through part of the jungle. The guides were great at giving us information on the lives of the Incas along the way and gave us a guided tour of Machu Picchu once we arrived. We got up very early on the last morning to ensure that we arrived in time to see the sun rise over the mountains. The porters did an amazing job of carrying everything, setting up camp and cooking some delicious meals.
