This was a wonderful trip! I traveled with my sister, brother, and my brother's friend. We had a little more than a day in Cusco before we began our hike, but I would not have minded a bit longer. Cusco is a very cool city, and a great place to shop around.
The first day of the hike was fairly easy, but it definitely got harder. We saw all types of terrain - barren mountain sides, snowy peaks, lush rain forests, and raging rivers. We hiked to the highest elevation I have ever been - 4,600 m! The guides did their best to accommodate the different levels of hikers in our group. Some people were affected by altitude sickness, some were not experienced hikers, and some people were pretty quick. Our group separated on the 3rd day because some of us had the 5 day hike and some only the 4 day hike.
We had a great time at the hot springs near St. Teresa - it eased our aching muscles after 3 very intense days of hiking. On our hikes through the mountains of the Sacred Valley, we saw various views of Machu Picchu, which was really cool.
On our entrance day to Machu Picchu, we also hiked up to Huaynapicchu - which I definitely recommend doing. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and I'm so happy we chose this trek!
