Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu has been a dream of mine for the last several years, particularly as the number of people entering each day has been limited. Our group booked our trip approximately seven months in advance and were pleased to find that we could book both the hike and Huayna Picchu.
Fast forward to November to when we arrived in Cusco and began the trek. I had a difficult time with the altitude and day 2 (Dead Woman's Pass) was particularly challenging - enough that our guide Paul was kind enough to take my backpack off my hands (well, back). Despite the struggles and through fact that it took me lots of hours to finish, when I saw the view at the Sun Gate, it was literally breathtaking.
I am grateful that we had such an amazing group between the porters, chef and kitchen staff, and tour guides who ensured that we all made it safely, provided legitimately the best food in Peru, and were always attentive and generous. This was absolutely a once in a lifetime experience and I have nothing but positive things to say about it.
