The Inca Trail is a cruel and beautiful mistress. The Andes are a wonderful and majestic place, but the trail is harsh, tough and very difficult.
We are not hikers and this is not a stroll in the woods. This trail is hard and mental tough. What got us through this was our amazing guide, Americano and the porters and cook that helped us along the way.
Our guide was patient, kind, sensitive our needs and paced accordingly. He made sure that we were hydrated and that the altitude sickness was taken care of. The porters were amazing and kind.
The food the cook made was delicious and fueling. You felt very taken care of. Despite the harshness of this hike having a guide, porters and cook who cared helped to encourage and make this journey doable.
