First of all let me say how hard this trek was in parts, but it was all worth it once we arrived at the sun gate and got our first glimpse of Machu Pichu. Wow! What a sight.
The first day of the trek was a nice gentle warm up,which was good as my personal experience with hiking is all but non existent. We made it to camp and sat down for dinner with little expectations of what the food might be like. Needn't worry the cooks pulled it out the bag, the food was amazing and plenty of it.
The second day consisted of a lot of uphill stages so be prepared. Stairs included! I found certain parts an absolute chore. More so because I'm incredibly unfit and smoke too much.
Third day was a lot easier due to hiking extra on day two. More flats and downhill. Stopping at the various inca sights on the way, cheeky little sneak peak as to what was to come. After hiking up a small but steep set of stairs we made it to the sun gate. Tired and mostly broken we had the most incredible view of the city of Machu Pichu. Well worth it.
Would just like to say a massive shout out to Paul and Will the guides who were patient and very helpful and the porters who make this hike look like a stroll in the park while carrying kg30+ on their backs (Loco). Without them the trip wouldn't have been half as good.
Thanks for such an incredible experience!
Enjoy.
