I felt the Inca Trail trek was one of the best experiences I have had. I was able to learn a lot about the Inca culture, Peru´s history, and visit various Inca sites during the four days. It was such an incredible feeling walking along a path that is 500 years old and was used by the actual Inca people to move from city to city.
The program was extremely well run. Our guide was extremely friendly and certainly knew the history of the area. The porters were always happy and willing to help in whatever way possible. Being a porter isn´t an easy job - they have to carry around 60lbs of equipment and get the camp set up for you before you arrive - but they are always smiling. The food was excellent! We had great breakfasts, lunches, and dinners each day, along with also having afternoon tea with snacks.
My overall impression of Cuzco and Machu Picchu is that it is somewhere everyone needs to go. Its amazing being surrounded by the Spanish colonial architecture, the narrow cobblestone streets, numerous cathedrals, and Inca ruins.
The trek definitely exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend it to all of my friends.
