The Inca Trail is much more difficult than advertised. However, our guides Victor and Marco were adept at making our journey exciting and culturally stimulating, even during the difficult portions (the Winnawanucca Pass for example). They were encouraging and knowledgeable about the archaeological sites along the way. In particular, learning about the Quechua and their involvement in the Inca Empire was particularly interesting to me.
Another overlooked portion of the trail is the porter service. Even if you do not see them because they are always racing toward your next rest site, they always have your food or tents set up. They deserve a lot credit for making the overall experience very smooth.
Altogether, the trip is worth experience if you are able to keep up with the rigorous trail.
