It was a pleasure doing this trek with a very diverse ´family´ that bonded pretty quickly. Our tour Guide Carlos and Marco were very knowledgeable of the Inca culture and accomplishments. The porters hauled quite a lot of gear for our comfort and cooked delicious food during the whole trip.
My advices:
-Pack light (20 lbs is reasonable, can be more but it depends on your fitness level) or hire extra porters
-You will require at most 2L of water per day (lots of tea and other drinks are provided during the meals) and you can get either boiled water from the porters, buy it from the locals, or use the taps (with water purifying tablets)
-Bring your favorite snacks
-Be prepared for rain (in season)
-Have decent hiking boots, the paths are tricky, uneven and slippery (when wet)
-Try to learn from each other
-Always keep smiling
Enjoy the trek,
Simon
