Three of us came from New York to hike the Inca Trail and see Machu Picchu. We were not used to high altitude and experienced sickness. Therefore the hike became quite challenging for us. I was breathing really hard going uphill, especially on the 2nd day. When the height reached 4000 meters, I had to rest once every minute.
Our guide Americano was helpful. He asked us to keep our own pace, slowly but constantly. We all made it to the top without using the oxygen tank. We were so proud that we conquered the Inca Trail. Machu Picchu would be very different without this experience.
