I was really surprised by how good the Inca Trail trek was. Our tour guide, Carlos, was great at teaching us about the Inca culture and history. The food was amazing, we couldn´t believe how good it was and the variety we were offered was brilliant, especially as we were half way up a mountain! They provided for everyone and all dietry requirements were met to the highest standards. Whilst the trek was difficult, our tour guides was encouraging and understanding and no one was left behind, they made the experience fun and positive, even at the hardest times.
Everything ran smoothly, from our introduction the night before to being dropped off back in Cuzco on the last day. The energy and enthusiasm of the tour guides really made a difference and I know that our whole group appreciated it. Arriving at Machu Picchu was the highlight, it made the four days of hiking worthwhile. The scenery all along the way was spectacular and although it was harder than i thought the end result made it more than worth it. Make sure you bring sun cream, insect repellent, warm clothing for the nights and cool clothing for the day. A porter would help make the experience easier but they are not a necessity.
I would highly recommend Inca Trail Reservations to anyone, and if you want to see Machu Picchu- the Inca Trail is the only way to do it.
