Wonderful, challenging journey with great guides and lots of fun travel companions from many countries. Great camaraderie. More stairs than most people will walk in a lifetime. I wished I just packed less. Wasn't a mountaineering expedition, though the elevation made it feel like one.
Elevation gain on second day is similar to hiking Mt. Si near Seattle, but you go from 10k to almost 14k elevation, so it's more like hiking from base-camp Muir to the top of Mt. Rainier. Weather is unpredictable, so be prepared.
A very memorable experience, and I'll probably come again to Machu Picchu with other friends or family. Next journey some day - the Pacific Crest Trail.
