My Inca Trail Experience

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Inca Trail Reservations . We had an incredible group of hikers, our guide was outstanding, and every single one of our porter staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.

Our guide, David, couldn´t have been any better. He was incredibly patient, and always waited for those of us who hiked slower than the rest. David was kind, always willing to answer questions, and did a great job with briefing us and preparing us for each day´s agenda. He was very self sacrificing, too, and if we ever had a problem, he was always there to help us out as best as he could. He was always very positive, which helped raise our spirits when we were tired when we woke up in the very early mornings, (approximately 5:30 am every day).

The food was great, too. I am vegetarian, and found all of the food sought my dietary needs, and was delicious. Some of us joked that the food was one of the best parts of the trek 4 times a day (breakfast, lunch, tea time, and dinner). The accommodations and gear worked well, too. For the most part, I was comfortable, especially considering that we were supposed to be "roughing it".

I hiked the Inca Trail in 4 days and enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, we saw a great deal of rain, which made things a bit of a challenge. It was, by far, the most physically demanding 4 days of my life, but I wouldn´t have changed the experience for anything. Keeping positive and walking in groups with good conversation made the trek much more enjoyable. In total, we hiked about 32 miles, and the elevation wasn´t necessarily on our side. Nonetheless, it was such an incredible feeling, being with good new and old friends, feeling my feet pound on the ground minute after minute, and being connected with the earth. I learned a great deal about myself, the Inca and Peruvian cultures, and the world we all live in during this experience. I wouldn´t say it was easy by any means, but every bit of it was very much well worth it.
