Once in a lifetime trip (never again!)

The trip started with a full briefing at the Inca Trail office in Cusco with Rony, our excellent guide. We were picked up early the next morning to head to Ollantaytambo for breakfast and then the start of our trek from KM 82 - a really lovely, (relatively) relaxed day stopping for lunch and ending up at a really cute campsite where we played football with the local kids.

All the lunch and dinners were provided by the amazing porters and chef who carry all your tents, food, cutlery and anything else you need them to carry. By the time you get to every campsite everything is set up waiting for you and the food is amazing. I'm a vegetarian and it was really good.

The second day is really challenging, hiking for hours uphill to Dead Woman's Pass and then an almost equally grueling trek downhill to the campsite.

After the second day you have two options - to hike all the way to Aguas Calientes, stay in a hotel and come back to Machu Pichu the next morning or have a third night in a campsite and get up at 2.30am to trek to Machu Pichu, we chose the second and it was tough nut worth it.

Basically - a fantastic, brilliant experience, challenging and too tough to repeat!
