The five day, four night hike through the Andes to get up to Salcantay and eventually Machu Picchu was an amazing experience.

After the initial hike on day one you have the chance to take a dip in a glacial lake, which is a great shock to the system and to cool your muscles. They will tell you that day two is the worst and they are not lying. However, the view from the top of Salcantay is worth it. Don't skip out on any of the opportunities that come your way on the trail. Mainly, go zip lining across the valley. The sleeping accommodations remind you sleep away camp, but the food you are served is much better.

I highly recommend taking this trek with this tour operator.
