Salkantay Trek

Possibly one of the best experiences of our 4 month trip through Central and South America. We organised the trip via the companys website. The information provided was comprehensive and we felt well informed regarding the expectations of the trip.

The trek itself was challenging at times particularly given the altitude. Day 2 on the Salkantay pass at 4600m, the highest point of the trek, the views of the mountain and valley were unparalleled.

The landscape across the 4 days was diverse and stunning; mountains, rivers, waterfalls and coffee plantations. The hot springs at Santa Teresa nestled in the valley alongside the river were beautiful and provided a much deserved soak. The staff on the trek were professional and friendly. The food varied, plentiful and tasty particularly given what limited space they had to work with.

Each morning we were awoken with calls of ‘coca tea’ at our tent doors and warm water to wash with, it was these small touches that really made you feel looked after. Each evening our guide briefed us on what the next day entailed; the topography and elevations, timing and the lunch spots. Knowing what was in store made the following day more achievable.

The trek itself became not just a means of reaching Machu Pichu, but a rewarding experience in itself. thanks a lot!!
