One day after we completed our trek to Machu Picchu we sit in the Salkantay.Org office in Cuzco trying to possible sum up a trip of a life time. The Salkantay trek was definitely a challenge for myself and 3 hiking partners but the experience could not have been made better by our guide David. We were fortunate enough to have just our group of 4 friends in our trek group and David did everything to accommodate us including making changes to our itinerary so each couple could travel as they wanted... hiking, horseback riding, buses and train if necessary. The food on the trail was amazing and there was plenty of food to go around each breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Our trek took us through what seemed to be every possible terrain rainforest, farm land, high jungle, rocky mountains up to snowy peaks, along rivers, horse trails and train tracks. On the 4th day of the trek we woke up early to be the first to enter the gates into Machu Piccu and watch the sunrise over the mountains onto the ruins- of course the view was indescribable... simple amazing!
Ever part of the trek was planned and went off without a hitch. The team at Salkantay.org could not have been more on the ball, ever detail was taken care of and every checkpoint was met without a hitch despite the variable desires of our group. I absolutely recommend this company to anyone thinking of doing the trek and would make a special request for David Quispe as a guide.
Happy Trails!!
