The Salkantay trek was a great adventure. We started with a steep climb to Humantay lake.

The view was spectacular. The rest of the day was all uphill to our first camp site. The elevation was rough on most in our group. I had a intense headache. We were victims of bad weather and had a very cold rainy night. The next day we summited Salkantay. It was very cold but super rewarding, almost 15,000 feet. After that it was all downhill. Literally a full day of downhill hiking.

The campsite was much lower elevation so we all felt much better. My favorite day was day 4. A few of us climbed up to Llactapacta with our awesome guide, Juan Carlos, and the views were breathtaking.

I highly recommend it! Inca Trail Reservations had all details together so it was very easy to plan and prepare. It was a tough vacation and you need to be in shape, but worth every moment. It truly was an epic adventure.
