This was a fabulous adventure ! We have yet to see Machu Picchu, which is the ultimate goal, yet we feel complete already. The Salkantay trek is a fantastic adventure - beautiful, educational, challenging, and tremendously fun.

My husband and I are in our early 50s. Yes, we were the oldest on the trek. Most of the other travelers were in their 20s or early 30s. My husband and I are both fit. We exercise regularly and consider ourselves fit. Although the trek is arduous, we were okay. Don't do this trek if you have knee or hip problems.

The hiking distances are respectable and the footing is challenging. On the second day, we walked on rocks for hours on end. This was tough ! The guides were wonderful, knowledgeable and encouraging, and very helpful. Delicious food !

I highly recommend this trek but only for those who exercise regularly and are in good shape. It is glorious and well worth the effort !
