Chat on WhatsAppHiking Machu Picchu had been a dream of mine for several years. I decided to use Inca Trail Reservations based on their excellent customer service through the booking and also tour process, they were very helpful, Mabel answered all my questions.
On the first day, we were picked up from our hotel, bleary eyed and a bit nervous about our new adventure. Our fears abated as we reached the first checkpoint on the trail and our guides started us off. The guides were incredible. They stopped and explained different plants and animals, as well as different archaeological sites.
The landscape we hiked through was stunning. For me, the first day posed the largest hurdle, as I learned that "Peruvian Flats" actually means up and down, averaging out to flat. It was a big surprise!! After a long day of hiking, we made it to campsite, and a WONDERFUL sight awaited- the porters had all of our tents set up, as well as a DELICIOUS hot dinner waiting for us!! It hit the spot!
Hiking the Inca Trail was a much more arduous experience than I anticipated, but it was absolutely worth it, and I´m so happy I did it. I will never forget it!!!
