I had the privilege of doing the Inca Trail 4-day trek with Inca Trail Reservations and I must say the experience was incredible!.
I cannot say enough about how wonderful our trek was. We spent the first day enjoying the scenery and getting used to the trek life. The second day was challenging but an amazing adventure hiking to the summit of Dead Woman's pass.
The second day was harder due to altitude, but our guide Juan Carlos was so very helpful and attending to help us hike and stay healthy. The views along the trail are unmatched, though the views a top the summit of the pass were magnificent!. The third day was long but so beautiful as you see many Incan ruins and start the trek through the jungle. The different terrains you see along the entire trek were diverse and enjoyable. You also see flora and wildlife. The 4th day is short and mostly flat, though again with wonderful views. The best part of the trip was the community built and family feel. I had the opportunity to build friendships with people from across he USA, Australia, and New Zealand. We also had the chance to build friendships with our guide, chef, and porters.
I would definitely recommend paying extra for a porter (1 porter for two people is perfect). The chef and porters are wonderful. I have so much respect for them as they work very hard to make the experience wonderful for the hikers. Tip them well!! Our guide was by far the best. He interacted with our group, helped us with our packs when we were tired, and was very passionate and knowledgeable about Incan history and ruins. He also cared for our group very well and with intentionality, getting to know each of us and encouraging us on challenging days.
His name is JUAN CARLOS, so ask for him when you take your trek!!.
He is the best and you won't regret it. This trip was by far the coolest thing I have done.
