Macho pikachu (Machu Picchu)

Having booked myself on to the Salkantay with Inca Trail Reservations I had no idea what to expect and was flying blind.

Now, at the end of the Salkantay hike with only Machu Picchu remaining I cam reflect on how much has been packed into the 4 days of trekking. The Salkantay trek showcases the huge variety of landscapes which peru possesses. We have trekked under past glaciers and then through sections of rainforest the next day.

Be forewarned, you will be walking for prolonged periods of time at very high altitude, for many hours a day, however Our guide, Americo, ensured we knew exactly what we were doing and had a great knowledge of the landscape.

The food was incredible and the equipment well maintained.
