These three anecdotes summarize my experience as a beginner who conquered the Machu Picchu and Inca Trail experience!
First, I have never hiked in my life. I was beyond intimidated by the thought of hiking 42 km in the Peruvian Andes. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I joined a group of experienced hikers - who became my friends by the end of the four days - that helped guide me through the four day experience.
Second, I eat a lot. I was worried that I would not have enough food to eat and/or energy to complete the grueling hike. However, the incredible porters that supported our trek provided plenty of food (and in some cases too much), all of which were delicious!
Lastly, one of my greatest anxieties about group trips is the quality of the tour guides. Inca Trail Reservations blew my expectations out of the water with the incredible guides they provided! We had two guides - Edson and Hilton - both of whom shared a ton of wisdom about their culture, gave us ample words of encouragement throughout the tough four days, and were genuine and authentic men who cared about our safety and well-being.
To anybody on the fence about taking this hike... Just do it!
