The Salkantay trek was great. The trek was slightly difficult, but it was an awesome experience. One of the greatest days I believe was the second day. On this day we hiked up towards the Salkantay mountain. I have to say hiking up towards the mountain definitely keeps your lungs at a struggle, but the feeling of accomplishment is priceless. At the top you can see the closeness of the Salkantay mountain.
Also if you´re doing the 5 day 4 night trek you will have the opportunity to go to the hot springs in Santa Teresa. This hot spring is a natural jaccuzi. However one thing I recommend is to bring warm clothes, because the first night is freezing. Also our guide, Elizabeth was very helpful and encouraging during the trek. She made sure we were constantly in good health to keep going or take a short break.
One other thing I thought was great, was the help from the horsemen and the chef. They were always on time with food and preparation for the next day. On the final day, you obviously get to Machu Picchu, and one thing I have to say is that it is jaw dropping.
Looking at pictures and videos doesn’t come close to seeing it in person. thank you very much Salkantay.Org !!
