I celebrated my 50th birthday on the Inca Trail with my son, who has trekked with me. It was our first trek and the booking as well as the organization were great. We booked via internet and paid via PayPal.

The first day we met our guide - Raul, who is an amazing guy - and our group of in total eight people. The first day was an easy hike and perfect for beginners. At the basecamp we got great Peruvian food prepared by the cook, who along with eight porters, accompanied us.

The second day was really challenging, because you are hiking 1200m of altitude to reach the summit at 4200m. I am usually visiting the gym and with a bit of stamina it is more than manageable, even though sometimes the air gets very thin and you have to stop.

The third day was less challenging, but we had to descent 1200m and walk 16km. However, it was awarded with great views and walks through the cloud forest and other great places. To celebrate my birthday Raul, the porters and the cook prepared a birthday cake for me and the group. What a pleasure!!!

The last day was superb. Despite the early wakeup time at 3am, we were the first to be at the Machu Picchu and enjoy the incredible views.

To sum up: The Inca Trail, booked with Inca Trail Reservations was a great and unforgettable experience. Raul is a great guide and the trek is managable by anyone in a mediocre physical state.
