The Inca Trail was an adventure I had been preparing for a while. Booked 6 months in advance, I had plenty of time to think about it, and finally, the D day arrived!
From day 1 it's been a great adventure.
Our tour guide, Paul is a great story teller. Sometimes exagerating things but he really shares his passion for the Inca culture. Each day was different from the previous one. Easy, super hard, long and full of things to see along the way.
The Inca trail isn't a walk in the park, but it's not a simple hiking route either. It's a adventure away from the crowd, shared with a group of tourist and the porters.
The highlight of the trail for me was the very last day.
Once we pass the Puerta del Sol, we're supposed to have the first view of the Machupicchu city. But when we got there, it was only fog. We all sat on the terraces and waited, while eating the sandwich we had been given at 3am. And then the magic happened... the cloud lifted and revealed the beautiful city. Then came the sunrise.
A truly beautiful experience.
And of course, once we entered the city, I could hear the guides around explaining to other tourists that we arrived from the Inca trail. Kind of made me feel like a star! :) !!.
