Chat on WhatsAppThis trek was as much and more than anything I expected.The trek was very well organized right from the beginning when our guide Carlos met with the group the day before it started and gave great information on what was needed to to begin the journey.
The trek began with the weather gods smiling on us and the weather continued to be perfect throughout the trek. The first day's trek ended with a grueling but short ascent to Umantay Lake which proved to be a good warm-up for the next day's climb to Salkantay Pass and Lake.
The descent from Salkantay Pass proved to be difficult and walking poles are highly recommended. The third day ended with a refreshing dip in Santa Teresa Hot Springs and the fourth night was spent in the small but bustling pueblo of Agua Caliente where shopping and refreshments were a great way to prepare for the next day's climatic adventure to Machu Picchu.
I cannot give too much credit to our excellent guide Carlos who consistently kept the trek fun and entertaining.
