The most amazing, self fulfilling things I have had the opportunity to experience. One foot in front of the other pushing all physical limits and seeing just what the body is capable of doing when you put your mind to it. This was a dream two years in the making. Although at the time the dream was simply to see Machu Picchu I had no idea the journey that lay before me, but when I finally reached the top of Dead Woman's Pass and felt the wind against my face I felt a sort of peace and relief I don't think I'd have felt with a simple train ride to see the sacred site. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience, the people we met long the way, our guide and amazing porters made the trip. Coming into camp seeing their smiling faces greeting you with a much appreciated beverage, you couldn't help but feel at home.
Our guide was incredible, he held vast knowledge of all the Inca sites we saw along the way, as well as great patience, perseverance and humor to help us along our way. He also shared much of the Peruvian culture with us as well as little things or sayings to help us build rapport with the others. The food was outstanding, absolutely blew my mind what the cook was capable of preparing for us with such limited resources. In all this was more than I could have ever imagined it would be. The only thing I would say that could have been better or I would suggest for others doing this trek is bringing a small single air mattress as the sleeping pads are quite thin, and possibly a sleeping bag as the zippers in many of them had some difficulty.
Gracias Inca Trail Reservations for making this trip so enjoyable :)
