Don't take the train, take the trail. Seeing Machu Picchu after a trek makes it an experience, not just a visit. This trip exceeded my expectations. The scenery, the many sites along the way, learning about the history and culture of the Incas, meeting people from five different countries, all combined to make for one of my best vacations ever.
The landscape is stunning. Mountains lush with vegetation. Cascading streams. The guides were great, fantastic food and the porters are the hardest working people I have ever met. Excellent, upbeat, helpful guides. You go at your own pace. Equipment - tents, sleeping bags - was very good and never wet even when it rained.
