I have always wanted to visit Machu Pichu and this year I finally had the opportunity to fulfill my dream and conquer the Inca Trail carrying my own backpack.
The three guides made this happen: Jimmy, Marko and Paul assisted where the trail was too difficult or I was too tired to carry my backpack. The food was amazing and the porters were very friendly and helpful. Simone was always ready with tea in the morning outside our tent.
I experienced this amazing trek with my good friend, Jim, who is 76 years old who also conquered the inca trail with the assistance of the guides: Jimmy and Marko as on numerous times they carried Jim's backpack for him. This was a relief for me because I could still enjoy my trek and not worry about Jim although a few times the group were left hiking on their own without a guide in the front or a guide at the back of the group.
A few times the three guides would show up 15mins later after the group had started trekking. I did raise my concern to Paul as I am also a mountain guide and he said that this was normal procedure and that he couldn't have someone in front of the group or the back at the same time. Please can you email me the standards and guidelines that you follow as there are general guidelines that all mountain guides have to follow.
Apart from that i had an amazing time and Paul is very knowledgeable and an experienced mountain hiker and Marko and Jimmy were always there to lend a hand especially taking care of Jim. I had an amazing time and really enjoyed the trek with a few highlights thrown in by the guides and group.
I hope to come back and do more treks in Peru especially in the Amazon. Thank you. Denise.
