I found the company Inca Trail Reservations great to work with, which was important for me as I was communicating my booking via email from New Zealand. There was also a very useful pre-trip meeting in Cusco where had the opportunity to meet our guides and other group members, as well as ask any questions about the trek.
The hike itself was fantastic, challenging and deceptive when learning the meaning of "Inca flat" early on. I hired a sleeping bag and I was happy - did not get cold during the nights ! I carried my own pack so would suggest bringing only the essentials that are recommended. All in all I had a great experience and would recommend using Inca Trail Reservations again !
