What an experience! Great views of the Andes Mountains, visits to different archaeological sites of the Inca civilization, and learning about the local flora and fauna.

Visiting Machu Picchu itself, while eye opening, is only one small part of the experience. Learning about the other Inca sites and the history of the Inca civilization greatly enhanced the historical value. Interacting with the local guide and porters was a big part of the experience, and they added to the cultural learning on the trail. The porters were always helping to make sure that we were hiking in comfort the whole time.

They had much heavier loads to carry while hiking, but were still able to hike faster than us and get our rest stops or campsites and food ready for us. It was also a great value for money, since the bus and train rides and the entrance fee to Machu Picchu were already expensive.

Adding in the cost of good quality food and service for 4 days, I felt like I was almost underpaying for the experience. Overall, I would recommend the Inca Trail to all!.
