First off, the food was incredible ! We were overwhelmed by the service and generosity of the porters and staff. We ate authentic Peruvian cuisine and enjoyed it all. Waking up to a hot cup of tea every morning in our tent was fantastic.
The trek itself was tougher than I expected, but I had been training at sea level and only spent 1 day in Cusco before the hike. I struggled on the second day, when we went up to 14,000 ft elevation. Third day was the longest, but my favorite for hiking experience. Lots of variation and flat bits to recover.
Bring more socks and toilet paper than you think you'll need, and never underestimate the healing power of coca. Lito, our guide, was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about the Inca sites and let us pace ourselves on the tough parts. Awesome guy to get to know ! he made sure we were very comfortable.
