When I booked onto the Inca Trail I was unsure what to expect... Would I make it to the top? Would altitude sickness get me? Would I like the group? And would I cope with roughing it? Well I did make it to Machu Picchu and it was amazing as was the journey (despite the ten zillion steps up and down broken up by bits of 'Peruvain flat') Happily I escaped altitude sickness thanks to coca leaves, the group was lovely, fun and supportive and I happily roughed it with the hole in the ground toilets and some 'al fresco' toilet stops !
This trip was made wonderful by the Inca Trail Reservations team. Our guides Edwin and Jim were kind, patient, knowledgeable and informative. They also obviously cared about the Inca Trail, it's history and its preservation. The cook made us feasts everyday. The food was wonderful and we were truly spoilt ! The porters in particular were incredible. They were always respectful and ran absolutely massive loads up and down the mountain while we huffed and puffed in awe of their strength. They worked extremely hard to make the whole thing possible.
Thank you to the guides, the cook, the porters and our lovely group for making this such an unforgettable and rewarding experience.
