Chat on WhatsAppWe started the Inca Trail not knowing what to expect and a little nervous about what was to come. However our guide Victor immediately put us at ease and we soon became well acquainted with our group which was to prove very important over the next few days.
Our team "the pumas" encouraged each other throughout and this made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. The real stars of the trip were the porters and our cook. They always had a smile on their faces and the work they did was invaluable. It was amazing to finish a days (or mornings) walking and see the tents already erected and food prepared.
The food was superb, made even more impressive by the fact that the porters had been carrying all the ingredients for days and cooking on the side of the mountain! Victors knowledge and passion about the Inca archeological sites we saw on the trek was a real bonus and enabled us to develop our understanding of the lives of the Inca people.
When we got to Machu Picchu Victor's tour of the site was particularly good and gave a real insight into the different theories about how the site was used in the Inca's time. Overall I would thoroughly recommend the whole experience. The guide and porters helped us enormously on the trail and the guided tour of Machu Picchu itself really rounded off the whole experience.
