Brilliant trek to Machu Picchu. Carlos and co were fantastic tour guides, remaining cheerful when we weren't! The porters are super-human. How they carry all of that gear whilst cheerfully skipping up steep mountains and down steeper stairs is incredible. While Machu Picchu is truly amazing, the trek there is even better. In the words of Carlos, there are several "beautiful Inca archaeological sites" along the journey and the mountainous terrain is unbelievable.
Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to adapt to the altitude before you start the trek. We had two days in Cusco before the trek. I'd recommend longer after having particular trouble on day 2, which is challenging even to people that consider themselves to be physically fit.
Carlos did a really good job of revealing some of the history behind the sites always adding a dose of humour.
If you do decide to trek to Machu Picchu, make sure you spend a little extra and get yourself a pass for Huayna Picchu too. The view, as seen attached is amazing.
Things you'll need: anti-diarrhea tablets, water purification tablets, anti blister plasters and ibuprofen gel for your knees. Take more than you think you'll need!
It's an adventure I'll never forget and despite getting ill halfway through, it was an incredible experience!
