Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu March 26, 2012

Overall the tour experience was amazing. We had a great time and I would definitely recommend it to a friend in the future. My favorite aspect of the trip was the regular interaction among the other travelers and the guides. Our guide, Gerson, was intelligent, funny, knowledgeable, caring and interesting. He made great accommodations for each of us to go at our own pace and experience the trail in the best possible way for each individual. For example, some of the people in our group preferred to move quickly on the trail and some of the others preferred to go slower. Gerson made sure that we all arrived at the correct meeting location so that we could receive his briefing about each site. The food and service was extraordinary and was much more than I had ever expected. I also liked how personable the porters were and how Gerson made sure we go to know them and had a positive relationship with each of them. In terms of what to bring, I recommend placing the clothing for each day in a plastic bag. I also recommend bringing soap and hand sanitizer. The reward for the trip was arriving at Mahcu Pichu which was incredible. I had visited MachuPicchu in the past. Since my original visit, I have always wanted to complete the trek and arrive at the Sun Gate at sunrise. My experience on the Inca Trail was everything I hoped for and I would definitely recommend the experience to a friend. I would also specifically recommend completing the trek with Inca Trail Reservations instead of taking the train or another means of visiting MachuPicchu.
