The overall experience was very good. We were able to experience a significant number of historical Quechua-Inca sites and learn about the native culture. The most interesting topics were the incredible architecture and methods of rock shaping in the most difficult of terrain.
The guides are very knowledgeable about the history, there are some communication issues....some of the details get lost due to the Spanish to English translation. Part of our goal in taking the Inca trial trek was to exert ourselves and take in high altitude fresh air, and in the beginning we thought the trip was not going to meet our expectations, but by the time we reached Machu Picchu and then hiked up Huayna Picchu we were not let down... we are sore and tired, which makes it worth it.
The cook and staff are very good at accommodating the food needs of the trekkers. The food was good and plentiful. The porters were very hard workers and very respectful and always greeted us with a smile.
My advise to future visitors is to be prepared for primitive toilet facilities. Take bug spray, toilet paper and maybe allergy medicine. Bring blister bandages or duct tape, we found 3 out of 8 people needed it.
The tour was a wonderful, beautiful and exhilarating experience. It was easy to communicate the booking and arrangements through internet and email.
We got to Cusco a day earlier to acclimate to the altitude. We had no problems on the trail. The tours were informative and educational. On the trek the guide was very knowledgeable in the Inka culture. After the first day we thought this was very easy and had expected more. The second day of the Inka Trail was up and over Dead Woman´s pass, then on to lunch site and to camp. It truly did live up to the expectation of long hiking and trekking. The first really was just a warm up. We enjoyed day three the most through the jungle terrain. It was truly amazing to go through the Sun Gate and see Macchu Picchu. We purchased the extra ticket to go up to the top of Huayna Picchu. It was well worth it with incredible views and so exciting, even though we were tired and exhausted from the camping and hiking previous days.
Overall a wonderful, lifetime experience that we truly enjoyed. Inca Trail Reservations did a great job. Remember to bring along bug spray, duct tape, and sore muscle rub.
