I had an amazing time on the Salkantay trail. All the training and exercising and endurance I prepared with did not factor in the altitude in the equation. Our guide Carlos was great, slowing down to rest when I was winded, making me celery and lemon tea when I got a fever. Horse option for the injured and weak.
Food was excellent. Make sure you book the El Mapi in Aguas Calientes, you earned it by then. Can't stop won't stop.... Watch out for the pay toilets! Food was decent, and plenty of water to buy on the way... You can skip the filtration. Bring a sleeping bag liner for more warmth of day 1 and 2.
