The Inca Trail is the most famous trek to get to Machu Picchu and now I know why. Four days of breathtaking views and even more breathtaking climbs! Do not be fooled - it is no walk in the park and a certain amount of basic condition is neccessary. But the feeling of accomplishment and the amazing surroundings make the trek worth it.
The Porters and Cooks were amazing! Creating three-course meals on the top of a mountain and carrying 26 Kilograms from start to finish. Our guides, Eloy and Edson, were also great. Edson always had a smile and a word of encouragement to get you up the mountain. Eloy was good at keeping the group together.
I would have wished for more detailed information about the Incas, their culture, and the trail. Eloy was able to give some insights, but one of the main reasons for doing the trek was to really learn about the Incas and I would have expected more.
All in all, the trip was amazing and I would highly recommend it. Inca Trail Reservations were great in the organization of everything. My contact was Mayra and she was absolutely wonderful! She answered all of my questions within a day or two. Though, I would suggest to all future travelers to have copies of all documents and payment for the trail as some things did get forgotten.
