Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the greatest adventure of a lifetime! My wife and I have been planning our trip months in advance. After seeing Machu Picchu it exceeded our expectations. We traveled with two other friends from the United States and we stayed at Stay with Us Hostal in the two rooms above the office which was convenient.
Words of wisdom; I highly recommend packing lightly. Specifically only bring 2 pairs of hiking pants, 2 shirts, 4 socks, and pack for diverse weather conditions. In one day we experienced; rain, snow, and intense heat from the sun. Also, bring an extra memory card and battery for your camera. I read the book Turn Right at Machu Picchu by Mark Adams which helped me learn the history of the Inca Empire and the discovery of Machu Picchu. Learning the history of Machu Picchu and the Inca Empire gave me a greater appreciation for what I experienced.
Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable of the Inca ruins. Hiking through the Peruvian Andes takes your breath away. You will see beautiful mountain peaks (some with snow on the tops) and beautiful jungle scenery. The food on the trail was excellent, and the porters were some of the hardest workers I´ve seen in my life.
Overall, everything went really well and I would recommend this company.
